Michael S. Harmon

Michael S. Harmon, a cherished husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, and friend, passed away peacefully on November 26, 2024, in Greenville, SC, at the age of 70. Born on March 28, 1954, in Fort Bragg, NC, Michael's life was a testament to resilience, love, and the joy of simple pleasures.

Michael is survived by his loving wife of 43 years, Laura Harmon, with whom he built a life filled with laughter and devotion. Though predeceased by his brother Allen, sister Cassie, and sister Rita Garner, Michael's legacy continues through his siblings, Ralph Harmon, Fred Harmon, Charles Harmon, Rick Harmon, David Harmon, Mark Harmon, and Pam Proctor and the late Cindy Harmon. His daughters, Melissa (Alex) Santiago and Jillian (partner Greg Mills) Harmon, will forever cherish the wisdom and warmth he imparted. His grandchildren, Taylor Harmon, Jakob Sarcia, and Lilee Cox, as well as step-grandchildren Jacob Mills, Bryan Mills, and Grady Mills, were the light of his life, and his great-grandchild, River Edney, brought him immeasurable joy. Michael also leaves behind a loving community of nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews.

Michael's career was as diverse as it was fulfilling. He worked with his hands and heart, first as a tree Machinist Arborist, then as a machinist. His strength and determination shone brightly when he overcame a traumatic brain injury (TBI), a testament to his indomitable spirit. His service to the nation was recognized by the National Defense Service, and those who worked alongside him knew him as a hard worker, always ready to lend a hand.

A man of deep faith, Michael was actively involved with his church, White Oaks Baptist Church, where he found solace and fellowship. His love for the outdoors was evident in his passion for landscaping, a skill he used to create beauty in his own backyard and in the lives of those around him. An animal lover at heart, Michael found companionship and joy in the company of pets.

Fishing trips, woodworking projects, and coffee conversations with friends and family were among Michael's favorite pastimes. His sense of humor and friendly demeanor made him a beloved figure in his community. The tune of his favorite song, "Dirt on My Boots," could often be heard as the backdrop to many of his days, reflecting his down-to-earth nature and zest for life.

Kind, funny, and friendly—these words encapsulate the essence of Michael S. Harmon. He approached life with a smile, a joke at the ready, and an open heart. His presence was a comfort, his laughter a balm, and his friendship a gift.
