Michael O’Connell passed away on May 26, 2023, after a short battle with cancer. Born November 16, 1948, in Teaneck, New Jersey, to Jewel and John O’Connell. He was in the arms of his family and his devoted wife Carolyn Holland O’Connell till his last breath.
He was a retired late-in-life teacher of at-risk teens, a volunteer guardian ad litem for 10 years, was a lover of books before he could read and relished catamarans racing with his buddies.
Michael was preceded in death by his beloved mother Jewel Cobb O’Connell, father John Noel O’Connell, brother John Frances O’Connell and sister Clare Anne O’Connell. He was survived his wife of 53 years, sister Gail Nebiker (Bob) of Midlothian VA, sister-in-law Mary Holland Hampe (Bob) of Summerville; nieces Lisa O’Connell-Hall (Don) of Spartanburg, Honor Nebiker of Miami Beach FL, Will Nelson of Ridgeville, S.C., Jenny Hampe of Charleston; life-long friend Ron McDaniel of Greenville S.C.
Arrangements by Cremation Society of Greenville, celebration of his life to be announced. Thanks to Prisma Downtown ER for their excellent compassionate care. In lieu of flowers please donate to the Cancer Society of Greenville S.C.
