Michael D. McDowell, known affectionately as Mike to his friends and family, passed away peacefully at his residence on May 1, 2024. Born on February 14, 1958, in Greenville, SC, Mike was a man of simple pleasures, a loving husband and father.
He is survived by his beloved wife of many years, Jackie McDowell; his children, Chris Slice and his wife, Katie Goodnough and her husband, and Michael McDowell and his wife. His legacy extends through his ten grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. Mike was the cherished son of Shirley McDowell and the late Pete McDowell, and a supportive brother to Bryan McDowell and his wife. His life was touched by both joy and sorrow, having experienced the loss of his granddaughter, Aubrie McDowell.
Mike was a graduate of Carolina High School. His interests were straightforward yet brought him immense joy. He could often be found watching the race, with a cold beer in hand and a cigarette between his lips, cheering on his favorite drivers with an enthusiasm that was contagious. His laughter and spirited commentary during these moments will be fondly remembered and deeply missed.
In every aspect of his life, Mike was genuine and true to himself. His straightforward approach, unwavering honesty, and the ability to find contentment in life's simple pleasures were qualities that earned him the affection of those who knew him.
Mike's presence will be profoundly missed, but his memory will continue to inspire those who were fortunate enough to know him. As we say goodbye to Michael D. McDowell, we celebrate a life lived with love, laughter, and a touch of irreverence that made every moment with him uniquely memorable. The family is residing at home, and there will be a graveside service to follow at a later date.
