Michael Antonio “Hippie” Garzon passed away on Monday, March 20, 2023, at home. He was the beloved father to his two children, Makyia (12) and Makoi (10).
We will have a celebration of life service on what would have been his 44th birthday at Trinity Way Baptist Church, 4113 Old Buncombe Rd, Greenville, SC 29617. The service will be on April 14th at 2:00 pm with visitation to follow.
He leaves behind his adoring family: parents, Stephanie and Lelis Garzon, sister and brother-in-law, Michelle and Michael Bridges, and maternal Grandmother, Carol Riley. He had two beloved cousins, whom he thought of as brothers, Fernando Franco, and Felipe Garzon. Also, he is survived by aunts, uncles, and cousins. He is predeceased in death by his maternal Grandfather, Elmer Riley, and paternal Grandparents, Pedro, and Judith Garzon.
Michael was born on April 14, 1979, in Greenville, SC. He received the holy sacrament of baptizing, holy communion, and confirmation at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Greenville, SC. He graduated from Berea High School in 1997 excelling in academics, music, and art. He was a member of the percussion line of the Green Machine marching band. He was proud of being first generation American on his father’s side. During his lifetime he participated in many Colombian events in the community. He went on to attend UNC of Ashville and Greenville Technical College. Michael also lived in Charleston, SC, and Orlando, FL for many years before settling back in Greenville with his children. His biggest focus and joy in life were his children. He loved working with them on their talents and showing them a non-cookie-cutter way of life.
