Mescal Elizabeth Hudson

Mescal Elizabeth Hudson, a trailblazer and cherished matriarch, passed away on November 6, 2024, at the age of 93 in Greenville, SC. Born on September 11, 1931, in Higgins, NC, Mescal's life was marked by her sharp wit, boundless generosity, and indomitable spirit.

Mescal's journey began as the valedictorian of her high school class, followed by a year of college that laid the foundation for her remarkable career. She made history as the first female supervisor at Duke Power, where her leadership and tenacity paved the way for many women who followed in her footsteps. Even after her retirement from Duke Power, Mescal continued to work in security until the age of 76, demonstrating her unwavering work ethic and dedication.

Her personal life was as rich and vibrant as her professional one. Mescal was the beloved wife of the late Douglas Hudson, and together they shared a life full of love and laughter. She was a loving mother to her children, the late Dana Andrew Arledge, the late Bryan Jack Arledge, Rita H. Orr, and Kimberly N. Arledge. Her legacy continued through her grandchildren, Paula McCarley, Timothy Paul Hall, and Christopher Daniel Hall, as well as her three great-grandchildren, who will forever cherish her memory.

Mescal's zest for life extended to her interests, which included the thrill of playing slots at Harrah's. Her sense of humor was infectious, and her generous nature knew no bounds. She was the life of any gathering, always ready with a funny story or a helping hand.
