Melvin “Earl” Cummings ended his struggle on November 1 at his home with his family surrounding him. Earl lived in Greenville most of his life and was predeceased by his parents, John Cummings and Margaret Cummings Taylor. He was married to Wanda Bennefield Cummings of the home for 47 years. In recent years they retired to Lake Greenwood where he enjoyed boating and fishing and enjoying life. Anything for a laugh, he would be the first to volunteer for karaoke where he sang Elvis, of course, and he loved costume parties. For over 20 years he attended Shag Festivals all over the state.
Earl was a painter by trade all his life. He had seven children: Tammie Hart (Allen), Ricky Cummings (Debra), Johnny Cummings (Rhonda), Missy Underwood (David), Timothy Cummings, Shane Cummings, Gwen Blanton (David). He was blessed with 19 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren.
His life celebration will be graveside, Friday, November 3, at 2 pm, at Graceland West, White Horse Road. Memorials can be made to GHS Cancer Institute, 864-797-7746
