Mauro Alberto Silva was born May 23,1949 in a small town in Ancash, Peru, just north of Lima, Peru. Papi (as he was affectionately known to his friends and family) passed away peacefully, with his daughters by his side, on April 5, 2022 in Greenville, SC.
Mauro spent his childhood years living in Ancash. The family then relocated to Lima where Mauro attended school and would later find a passion for cycling. He went on to join several local teams starting at the age of 17. He represented the Peruvian national team several times.
In 1972, he met his sweetheart Gladys Isidora Oriundo when she moved in next door. Mauro and Gladys went on to have 4 children, Juan Carlos Silva, Fabiola Gladys Potts, Ursula Salam and Maria Luisa Silva. They immigrated to the US in 1995, bringing his passion for cycling to the upstate.
Mauro enjoyed his retirement spending time with his daughters and grandkids, especially Sunday night dinner every week. He enjoyed being active by running and riding his bike and working on DIY projects in his home. He loved watching ALL sporting events.
Mauro is predeceased by his wife Gladys. He is survived by his children, Juan Carlos Silva, Fabiola Gladys Potts and husband, Ryan Potts, Ursula Salam and husband Brahim Salam, and Maria Luisa Silva. His grandkids, Victoria, Micaela, Zidane, Jaber and Rafaella.
