Maurice Mathew Coston of Oakland, California passed away on
Saturday, January 7, 2023, at the age of 74. After several months
of successful surgeries, Maurice was diagnosed with cancer that
moved aggressively due to years of being on anti-rejection
medication form his Kidney transplant. He died peacefully at
home with his beloved wife Laurel and their children by his side.
Maurice was born in California on April 29, 1948, to father
Mathew Forest Coston and Mother Irma Baker-Coston.
He was an only child. He attended the University of
California. He held a Bachelor of Science.
An enthusiastic traveler, who on a whim in college took a job for
Northwest airlines, where he would continue to grow and move up
for 42 years, then work through the merge with Delta put in
another 2 years before retiring with 44 years in 2010. You will
never meet a person who met him through work or friend that
doesn’t have a good Maurice story. Through work and with friends
Maurice had traveled to countless countries and had amazing
stories. One including how this West coast guy took a short-term
job on the East Coast where he would meet his future wife Laurel.
Maurice was 35 and Laurel 25 at the time but he knew that she
was the one he had been looking for.
Maurice and Laurel would go on to have many adventures
together that ranged from Traveling the world to starting a family.
Together they were a dream team and created a home for their
children no matter where the family moved too. They had a place
for everyone and were lovingly know as Mama and Papa bear at
their house on Lake Winnipesaukee where they spent there
summers for 19 years. Maurice loved to boat with his family and
had found memories of family trips to Story Land. The whole
family was very close.
Maurice was preceded in death by both his parents and beloved
Aunt Mert. He is survived by his loving wife Laurel Beth Coston;
children Mathew David Coston and Evalie Irma Coston-Loriaux
(Gregory Adam Loriaux); grandchildren Derece Mathew Coston
and Lillie Josephine Loriaux.
Maurice did not want a funeral he wished for a celebration
of life which the family plans to hold in April on his
birthday in South Carolina.
