On Saturday, August 8, 2020, Mary Alice Pitts passed away at St. Francis Hospital at the age of 76.

Mary was born to the late Nannie and James Grady Pitts, Sr. She grew up in Greenville, SC and was the eldest of 5 siblings. Mary left high school to take care of her sick mother. She had a love for learning and later she decided it was time to “get an education”. While working a second-shift job, she enrolled in the GED program at Sullivan Center. She completed the requirements and received her GED. She went on to graduate from Greenville Technical College in May of 2004, with an Associate Degree in Business. Over the years, Mary worked in the banking industry, which she really enjoyed.

Mary was baptized as one of Jehovah’s Witnesses on August 17, 2002. She enjoyed sharing the good news about God’s Kingdom with others.

Mary was preceded in death by her mother and father; sister: Nannie Bell Pitts; brothers: Joe Louis Pitts and James Grady Pitts, Jr.

Mary is survived by her daughter, Joann Moore (Ken); two beloved grandchildren: Fernando Booker and Whitney Nicole Young (Antonio); two great-grandchildren: Makayla Booker and Audriella Booker; sister: Joann Shepherd; brother: Willie Lee Pitts; Cousin: Willie Marion Davis; a close friend who proved to be a source of great encouragement over the years: Kim Perrin; and nieces and nephews.

Mary will be remembered for her generous spirit. She loved to dance, drink “Pepsi-Colas” and eat fried chicken wings.
