Ms. Evelyn, as she was called, worked for many years as a secretary in New York before retiring. After leaving New York, she moved to Greenville along with her husband Leroy.
Ms. Evelyn made her most important decision in life by symbolizing her dedication to Jehovah in baptism on July 21, 1962. Many here in Greenville remember her faithful service. She attended the Central and North Greenville congregations. She was known for being eager to speak about Jehovah, and continued to endeavor to do so even with failing health. When different ones would take her to Doctor’s appointments for example, she would smile at the person sitting across from her, establish eye contact, say something about the truth, and then urge the person with her to give them a tract she had taken out of her purse. Many remember going to see her at her apartment, and you would always be greeted by her bright and strong Hi! She loved visitors, and everyone felt encouraged and their spirits lifted by her company. She also loved some fried catfish, and would encourage anyone she could to take her out to have some! Ms. Evelyn had strong faith in Jehovah, and made this known to everyone, including her Doctors up till her death. The promise of a resurrection and perfect life on a paradise earth was real to her. She will be greatly missed by all who knew her.
