On Monday, October 31, 2022, Mary Bentley Cureton, loving wife and mother of two children,
passed away at age 91.
Mary was born on January 5, 1931, in Greenville, SC, to Shirley Bentley and Margie (Lowrey)
Brown. She attended Parker High School. On April 16, 1948, she married William Edward (Bud)
Cureton and together they raised two sons, Ed and Roger.
She was a member of Cedar Lane Baptist Church, where she served many roles throughout the
years, including Sunday School teacher, member of the choir, Seniors director, nursery team,
prayer team, and visitation team. The time she spent at the church was the thing she looked
forward to most, and she remained a faithful servant to the Lord until the end.
She had a unique ability to make those around her feel loved and cared for. Many have said
that whenever they were having a bad day, sitting down to talk with Mary always brightened
their mood. She had the personality to make friends wherever she went, and her smile never
failed to make others feel loved and appreciated.
Mary was preceded in death by her husband, Bud, and her brothers John Brown, Thomas
Brown, and Clint Brown. She is survived by her two children, Ed Cureton and Roger Cureton,
and her sister, Betty Barnett, along with many nieces, nephews, and cousins, all of whom she
loved like her own children.
A memorial service will be held on Monday, November 7, 2022, at Westville Funerals Chapel,
6010 White Horse Road, Greenville, SC, at 1 pm. Visitation will be from noon – 1 pm before the
services, and interment will immediately follow at Graceland Cemetery.
