On the 18th day of October, 2023, our beloved sister in Christ, Mary Elizabeth "Beth" Altman, was called to her heavenly home, leaving this earthly realm. Beth resided in Landrum, SC and passed at Spartanburg Regional Hospice House in Spartanburg, SC after a short fight with cancer. Born on the 11th day of January, 1944, in Columbus, Ohio, Beth was the cherished daughter of the late Ralph E. and Mary L. Amstutz.
Beth was a devoted educator, having earned her Master of Education and dedicating her life and career to molding young minds. She taught 8th grade Earth Science and Social Studies at Boiling Springs Junior High School until her retirement.
Beth was a woman of many interests and talents, which reflected her boundless curiosity about the world around her. She was an avid "Rock Hound”. Her love for geology and astronomy shining through in her teachings and her personal life. Her dedication to service was evident in her work with the Red Cross in Louisiana during the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina. She found peace and joy in hiking along the Blue Ridge Parkway, and expressed her creative spirit through painting and music.
Beth is survived by her son, William "Bill" Altman and his wife Kim, her daughter Bethany Tapp and her husband Larry; her grandsons Matthew “Alex” Tapp, Austin Tapp and Jake Altman; and her granddaughters Emily Altman and Adlay Tapp. She is also survived by her brother, David Amstutz and his wife Vicki. Her kindness and nurturing spirit will live on through them.
Beth was a woman of faith, a woman of strength, and a woman of love. Her life was a testament to her belief in the power of education, the importance of service, and the beauty of the natural world.
In the words of the Good Book, "Well done, good and faithful servant." Beth lived a life of service, of love, and of faith. We rejoice in the knowledge that she is now at peace, cradled in the arms of our Lord and Savior.
As we remember Beth, let us emulate her kindness, her passion, and her unwavering faith. Let us remember her not with sadness, but with joy, for she has gone to a place where there is no pain, no sorrow, and no tears, but only joy, peace, and love.
Today, we rejoice for Beth, for she is at home with our Lord. She now rests in the arms of our Savior, her work on earth done, her heavenly reward received. May her soul, and the souls of all the faithfully departed, rest in peace. Amen.
