It is with great sadness that the family of Marvin Haynie Strickland announces his passing after a brief illness on June 30, 2017 at the age of 77. Born on August 11th 1939, he was the son of the late Clarence Alonzo and Elsie Lee Strickland. Marvin was a veteran of the US Army, honorably discharged in December of 1963. He was a long time member of VFW Post 9273 in Piedmont. Marvin is survived by his two children: Shannon Lee (Elizabeth) Strickland and Sharon Anne (Jason) Mikeworth; and his sister Betty Jo Eustace. Marvin will be fondly remembered by his seven grandchildren: Wayne, Nathan, Chenoa, Jason Lee, Logan, James and Lee. He will also be lovingly remembered by his former wife Patricia, and his longtime friend and caregiver Linda and Marvin Collins. Marvin was predeceased by his brothers Robert “Bobby” Strickland, Clarence C. “Cliff” Strickland and Billy Ray “Red” Strickland. A funeral service will be held on Tuesday July 11th at 3 PM, at the M.J. “Dolly” Cooper Veterans Cemetery, 140 Inway Dr., Anderson, SC 29621. Flowers are appreciated or memorials may be made in Marvin’s name to the Wounded Warrior Project.
