On Friday, May 27, 2022, Martha Eugenia Mason Crawford, loving wife and mother of five children, passed away at the age of 83.
Martha was born on June 14th, 1938, in Greenville, SC to the late Roy and Eunice (Poore) Mason. She married her loving husband, Johnny Crawford on February 2, 1953, and were married for 67 years. Together they raised four sons, Mike, David, Tony and Joe, and one daughter, Tammy.
In her early life, she lovingly raised her children and was a housewife. After her children were grown, she began to work at Frazier Animal Hospital where she was a Veterinary Assistant for 30+ years. While there, she touched so many lives with her kindness and gentle soft-spoken voice, everyone knew who Martha was! Her love and compassion for animals showed no boundaries and her dedication to her job was her life. She loved all animals, but she had a special affinity for cats, and she saved countless cats with feline leukemia, making a kennel for them in her large, screened porch, often tending 15 to 20 at a time.
She enjoyed cooking for her large family at the holidays and made the best macaroni and cheese casserole and asparagus casserole! Her grandchildren loved her along with all of her in-laws. When there was a gathering of the Crawford Clan you were so lucky to be able to eat at her table.
She and her husband were active in the Clan Lindsey Society USA and attended many highland games and events.
Martha was predeceased by her husband Johnny, her parents, and three of her sons, Johnny Michael, David Leslie and Anthony Kevin. She is survived by her two remaining children, Tamara Maria Crawford Sawyer (Donald) of Franklin, Maine, and Joseph Bryan Crawford (Carolyn) of Travelers Rest, SC, as well as six grandchildren, one great-grand daughter and three daughters-in-law, Judy, Susie and Kathy.
There was a lot of love in Marthas heart. She was a quiet spoken lady--so caring--and her family was her pride and joy. She loved her husband, John, and has missed him so much in her last few years. She lost three of her sons and even though her heart was broken she carried on for her daughter, Tammy and her son, Joe. Joe was her main care giver and she looked to him for guidance and care.
Martha and her husband Johnny will be interred at Greenville Memorial Gardens, Piedmont, SC., in a private, family service.
She will be missed by all her loved her.
"Hope" is the thing with feathers-
That perches in the soul-
And sings the tune without words-
And never stops-at all-
And sweetest - in the Gale - is heard-
And sore must be the storm -
That could abash the little Bird
That kept so many warm -
I've heard it in the chillest land -
And on the strangest Sea -
Yet - never- in Extremity,
It asked a crumb - of me.

We will miss Martha dearly, her warm demeanor was infectious, and her laugh, a comfort to the ear, we are so grateful for the time we had to spend with her. We will always feel her presence in our hearts.
