Martha “Marty” Ellen Jones, age 92, of Greenville, South Carolina, entered the presence of her Savior on Sunday, May 19, 2024.

Marty was born to Robert and Cora (Frost) Jones on December 11, 1931, in HalshaN, Pennsylvania, the third of seven children. She graduated from
Stoneboro (PA) High School in 1949 and attended business school before entering the workforce in the offices of Sawhill Manufacturing. After working for a few years, she attended Bob Jones University in Greenville, SC. During chapel services, seated in alphabetical order, she ended up next to James B. Jones Jr. Jim Jones and Marty Jones soon began dating and were married on August 20, 1954.

They were blessed with three daughters – Debra, Sandra, and Karen – and a son, David. Jim served as a Chaplain in the US Navy. The family moved to duty staVons in California, Tennessee, Alaska, Illinois, and the Philippines, before landing in Florida. While her husband served as the pastor of Grace Baptist Church in Panama City, Florida, Marty served as an excellent hostess and pastor’s wife while also teaching school for over 25 years. Following the death of her husband in 1993, Marty moved in with her eldest daughter’s family and began moving once again – to Georgia, Michigan, and West Virginia. In 2004, Marty moved in with her second daughter’s family in Ohio, where she lived until moving one final time to South Carolina in 2012. She was a blessing to her children and grandchildren, having special input into their lives.

Marty was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Jim Jones; her parents, Bob and Cora Jones, and four brothers – Paul, Robert Jr, David, and Charles.  She is survived by children –Debra (Skip) Sullivan of Mobile, Alabama, Sandra (Steven) Brown of Greenville, South Carolina, Karen (Larry) Beckman of Elyria, Ohio, David (Donna) Jones of Easley, South Carolina; twelve grandchildren – Jessica (Jason) Drennen, Scott (Mollie) Sullivan, Bradley (Elise) Sullivan, Matthew (Joan) Brown, Joshua Brown, Stephanie (Jay) Nihart, Steven (Ashley) Brown II, Erika (Sam) Carstensen, Tiffany (Josh) Barr, Morgan (Joe) Burgo, Meagan (David) Friend, James (Lindsey) Jones; nineteen great-grandchildren – Everett, Reagan, Peyton, Caleb, Thomas, William, Avery, Aubrey, Staci, Grayson, Boden, Carman, Parker, Nicholas, Benjamin, Hudson, Camden, Amelia, and Natalie; a sister, Ruth Gruber Miller of Hermitage, Pennsylvania; a brother, Daniel (Barbara) Jones of Sandy Lake, Pennsylvania; and numerous cousins, nieces, and nephews.

A memorial service will be held graveside at the Barrancas National Cemetery (NAS Pensacola), followed by interment.
