Mark A. “Sweet Pea” Turnbull, 64, of Travelers Rest, SC, escaped the darkness of dementia and walked into the light of our Lord Jesus Christ on July 15, 2020.Born in Florence, SC, he was the son of Leonard H. Turnbull and Betty Ann Swygert Turnbull. He grew up in Greer, SC and attended Wade Hampton High School. After graduating from Camden Military Academy, Mr. Turnbull enlisted in the Navy and served in the Vietnam War.He was predeceased by his first wife, Shirley Sue Schuyler Turnbull; and his birth father, William “Billy Mack” McCollum. Surviving is his wife, Rhonda Brian Turnbull of Travelers Rest, SC; sisters Cathy McCollum Chaipis (Philip) of Blytheville, SC, and Peggy McCollum Thompson (Archie) of McColl, SC; grandson Justin Michael Ebreck, of Ovid, MI; and numerous nieces and nephews.Mr. Turnbull was active in the Alzheimer’s Association and was a featured speaker in the 2017 Greenville Walk to End Alzheimer’s. He was an avid golfer and loved all of God’s creatures, except snakes.
