Mark Anthony Parker, known fondly to family and friends as Mark, passed away peacefully on January 20, 2025, at 2:17 am, in Greenville, SC, the same city that greeted his arrival into this world on July 15, 1961. However, Travelers Rest was his home for most of his life. He was a beloved son to the late Shirley and Issac Parker, a devoted husband to his cherished wife of 28 years, Mary Parker, and a loving father to his children, Alice Christina Sutherland, Shane Sutherland, Amy Parker, and Michael Parker.
Retired from a fulfilling career as a truck driver, Mark was not one to sit idle. His love of the Lord and sense of community service shone through his active involvement with the homeless and as a spirited drummer at church, sharing his faith and joy through music. His love for the open road persisted in his enjoyment of motorcycles, symbolizing his adventurous and free spirit.
Above all, Mark was a family man; a loving figure to his grandchildren, Nicole Patterson, Leigh Kim, and Bradley Patterson, and an adored great-grandfather to Clay Kim. His warmth extended to his sisters Rosalind Jones and Michele Gilstrap.
Mark will always be remembered for his love of God, and his love for his family, a man of humor, love, and faithful character, touching the lives of those around him with his compassionate soul. His legacy of laughter and tenderness will resonate within the hearts of his family and all those who had the pleasure of knowing him. Even though he wasn’t able to be active in his latter years, he loved and respected his Pastors, Donnie and Dana O’Shields at Living Branch Ministries.
