Travelers Rest, SC - Marion Allan Mason, 69, went home to be with the Lord May 30, 2022. Born March 29, 1953, in Spartanburg, SC, he is the son of Marion E. Mason, Sr., and Joanne Mason. Allan was a member of Colonial Hills Baptist Church and retired from Mitsubishi Polyester Film in 2014. He is preceded in death by his father, and brother, Keith Mason. Allan was a veteran of the United States Air Force, having served from 1972 to 1976, earning his way to Staff Sergeant. He was part of the Industrial Fire Brigade, where he was a Captain. He was also a Seaman in the U.S. Navy Reserves. Among his accomplishments in the USAF, he was the crew chief on the A-7D Corsair 2. According to Allan, he "woke them [the planes] up in the morning and tucked them in at night." Two of the planes from his squadron now belong to the United States Air Force Museum in Dayton, OH, and his plane is at the Air and Space Museum in Richmond, VA.
Allan enjoyed building model planes, telling stories about the Civil War, learning history, and South Carolina Gamecock football. Mostly, he enjoyed spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren.
Allan is survived by his beloved wife of 41 years, Rhonda Mason, their three children, Ethan (Sarah), Nicole Mason Paquette (Jared), Elizabeth; mother, Mrs. Joanne Mason, sister, Karen Cole (Wayne), brother, Marty (Deborah), sister-in-law, Debbie Mason, five grandchildren, and nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held at Colonial Hills Baptist Church in Taylors, SC on June 25 at 11:00 a.m. Visitation will follow immediately, and burial will be at Mountain View Memorial Park in Travelers Rest.
