Greenville – Mareon Chapman Bryant Stall, 84, died surrounded by her loving children on March 10, 2025. She was the middle of 3 daughters of the late Cema C. and Lamar Chapman. She is survived by her sisters Cema Powell, Joan Deifell and Patty Swope (David). She attended Converse College and graduated with a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Music from University of South Carolina.
Mareon married the boy next door, Wade H. Bryant, in 1960, and they had three children: Carolina Bryant (Stace Wilson), Eleanor Bryant Dunlap (Billy) and Wade H. Bryant Jr. (Ray). She was a kindergarten music teacher, substitute schoolteacher, member of the Junior League, private piano and voice teacher, Greenville Chorale member, and showed her versatility at the Greenville Theater. Mareon and Wade followed in the footsteps of their parents as active members at First Baptist Greenville where they and their children were involved in many activities. She was a choir member and director, Sunday School teacher, Youth Group leader, and Deacon. Joyous memories came from spending time in the mountains, vacations at the beach, and family reunions. Her life with Wade, who died unexpectedly in 1987, created four beloved grandchildren: Jordan Dunlap, Emily Dunlap, Wade Hampton Bryant III and Avery Bryant.
In 1992, Mareon re-married. Her 2nd love, Ad Newton Stall Jr., further enriched her life with a new, extended family to include four children: Cathy Stall McCall, Tommy Stall (Sue), Sally Stall Duarte (John), and Betsy Stall Roper (Steve); eight cherished grandchildren: Christopher McCall (Lacey), Catherine McCall, Elizabeth Royston (Brendan), Thomas N. Stall Jr., Kitty Hartvigsen (Kristofer), Hudson Tryon (Yiran), Brittany Roper and Jeffrey Roper; and seven great-grandchildren. She was deeply devoted to her expanded loved ones, and she added carpool and caregiver to her list of careers. Newt and Mareon were also active in the community of First Baptist Greenville, loved Greenville Symphony and Greenville Chorale concerts at the Peace Center, and enjoyed taking their children and grands on family vacations.
Mareon’s mission was her love of family, her drive to have purpose and to help and care for others. Her life was filled with music. She had a beautiful, passionate heart, loved to learn, and had a thoughtful word for everyone. She left an indelible mark on everyone with whom she came in contact.
The Service of Worship, Music and Celebration of the Life of Mareon will be held on Saturday, March 22, 2025, at 10:00am at First Baptist Greenville, 847 Cleveland Street, Greenville, SC, 29601.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to First Baptist Greenville, the Greenville Symphony, or the charity of your choice.
