Mabel Todd

Mabel E Todd, 97, passed away May 31, 2017 at National Health Center, Greer, SC. She was born on February 18, 1920 in New Sweden, Maine, the daughter of Helmer and Edrie (Olson) Espling.
She attended school in Jemptland, New Sweden and was a graduate of Caribou High School. Prior to World War II she worked as a bookkeeper in Caribou. During the war she worked at Norton Company in Worchester, MA to aid in the war effort. After the war ended she moved back to Caribou, married Arthur Todd and moved to a potato farm in Perham. She continued to work in Caribou for several businesses and then at Loring Air Force Base Army & Air Force Exchange for several years prior to her retirement. After her husband died she and her mother moved to Madawaska Lake. She served as treasurer and/or financial secretary for the 1st Baptist Church of Woodland while living in Perham and then served in a similar position for the 1st Baptist Church of Stockholm while living at Madawaska Lake. She also served with the New Sweden Historical Society for several years. She spent winters from 2001 to 2009 with her son Paul and his wife Bonnie in Simpsonville, SC. In March of 2009 she moved to a health care facility near Paul’s home in South Carolina.
She is survived by her daughter Amber Anderson and husband Dale of Aurora, CO; her son Paul Todd and wife Bonnie of Simpsonville, SC; a granddaughter, Bethany Anderson of Aurora, CO; a granddaughter, Julie Picard and husband John of Canton, GA and great-grandchildren Zachary and Zoe; and a granddaughter, Jill Purcell and husband Scott of Saco, ME and great-grandchildren Sydney and Addyson. She was predeceased by her husband Arthur Todd, her sister Rena Hultgren, and her parents Helmer and Edrie Espling.
She will be missed by two special friends in SC, Priscilla Carne and Margaret Basher.
A memorial service will be held in Maine at a later date.
