Lynda E. Murphree, a long-time pillar of the Greenville, SC community, returned to her celestial home surrounded by love on February 8, 2025. Lynda, born into this world on July 21, 1942, in the same city where she would later breathe her last, led a life defined by devotion to her family, her faith, and her community.
Lynda’s journey through life was shared for 64 years with her best friend and loving husband, the late James W. Murphree Sr. Together, they poured their love into raising three children: Donna Shuman (Kevin) of Ozark, AL; Karen Murphree of Raleigh, NC; and James "Wes" Murphree Jr. (Christie) of Greenville, SC. Her warmth, guidance, and joyous spirit will be cherished by her beloved grandchildren, Kaci Ernst and Kaleb Shuman, and blessed by the giggles of her four great-grandchildren.
Daughter to the late William E. and Clara B. Tompkins, and sister to Mildred Perry, Mae Sloan, and Louis Moon, all of whom have predeceased her, Lynda’s kinship extended far beyond blood. Her nurturing touch graced the lives of countless others through her consistent and dedicated volunteer work.
Lynda's early years were spent assisting at Stone Manufacturing. After embracing motherhood, she selflessly served both at home and in her children’s schools, spreading kindness and warmth in lunchrooms and classrooms alike. Her deep-rooted faith was expressed through over a decade of teaching Sunday School and volunteering at a local Children's home.
The tranquility of her garden, the aroma of her home-cooked meals, the joy of shopping trips, and the companionship of beloved animals reflect Lynda’s treasured interests. She lived a faith-filled, loving, and selfless existence, emulating a life of service and love. Her legacy is one of unwavering support, a testament to a life celebrated by many and sorrowed by all at her parting.
