Linn Douglas (Doug) Clark, was a man who lived his life with determination, perseverance, and always doing what he thought was right. Doug overcame many obstacles, including polio, and never let them define him. He managed all his challenges privately and never wanted to be treated any differently than anyone else. In fact, he had a "successful" life in every sense.
Born in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, residing in his youth in Independence, Kansas, and raising a family in California, then Tennessee, Doug's journey came to a peaceful close near his retirement home on Lake Keowee, in South Carolina on July 1, 2023.
Doug was a loving husband to Mevelyn Kay Clark, a devoted brother to Dee Vaughn and Carol Dodson (predeceased), and a doting father to Melanie Clark (predeceased), Melissa Rothring (husband Bob), and Marcie Gregory (husband Greg). His three grandchildren, Stephen Rothring (wife Bonnie), Elizabeth Rothring, and Paxton Gregory, will forever remember their grandfather's warmth and love. Many nieces, nephews, cousins, and extended family are also missing him. He had many friends from his childhood, his young adult years, work and retirement, that meant so much to him.
Doug's professional journey started in education but he received his MBA enabling him to pursue a career in business aviation starting at Lockheed and retiring from Fed Ex. Doug was not just a leader in the workplace, but also a mentor, always ready to share his knowledge and experience with those around him.
With many diverse interests, Doug was multi-talented. He enjoyed the great outdoors whether he was fishing, hunting or using his amateur photography skills to capture the world's beauty. Woodworking, swimming, and attending golden year continuing education classes were all things he shared with his friends and family. His little know artistic talent, his interest in history, and his Methodist faith, were all part of who he was.
As we remember Doug, let us celebrate his life by embracing his values of love, adventure, and creativity. Doug Clark, a life well-lived, a legacy well left, a good man.
