Lawrence Eugene Olk

Lawrence Eugene Olk, known affectionately as Larry to his friends and loved ones, passed away peacefully on February 29, 2024, in Greenville, SC. Born on May 22, 1946, in Racine, WI, he was a man whose life was characterized by the love he held for his family, his clever hands, and an adventurous spirit that brought joy to those around him.

Larry's early years in Racine laid the foundation for a life of ingenuity and adventure. He was the beloved son of the late Eugene and Lucille Olk and grew up alongside his sister, Dianne Diekhoff (Bill). His family will remember him as a guiding light - a man who, with his intelligence and handy nature, was always there to lend support or fix a problem, no matter how complex.

After completing his education, Larry embarked on a fulfilling career as an airplane mechanic. He spent many years with Eastern Airlines, where his skill and dedication were evident to all who worked alongside him. Larry's reputation as someone who could fix anything followed him throughout his career, even as he transitioned to work for various other airlines. His colleagues respected him not just for his technical abilities but also for his willingness to share his knowledge and his unwavering work ethic.

Outside of work, Larry was a man of diverse interests and talents. His passion for woodworking was more than just a hobby; it was an art form through which he expressed his creativity and precision. Friends and family often marveled at the beautiful pieces he crafted, each one a testament to his attention to detail and love for the craft. Larry was also an avid outdoorsman. He cherished the time spent fishing, hunting, and boating - activities that allowed him to immerse himself in nature and the tranquility it provided. On quieter days, Larry could be found with a book in hand, lost in stories and knowledge that fed his ever-curious mind.

Those who had the pleasure of knowing Larry would describe him as intelligent, adventurous, and incredibly handy. It was these qualities that drew people to him, and they are the memories that will linger in the hearts of those he leaves behind. 

Though he is no longer physically with us, the memories shared with Larry will continue to inspire and comfort his loved ones. He is preceded in death by his cherished wife, Suzanne Olk, who was a beacon of love and companionship throughout their years together. The bond they shared was one of mutual respect and deep affection, and it is a solace to know they are reunited once more.

Larry's presence will also be profoundly missed by his faithful companion, his beloved dog Sophie, who was a source of joy and friendship in his life.
