Laura Marie Dodd

July 16, 1941 — October 18, 2023

Laura Marie Dodd, beloved missionary wife to her late husband, Louie Dodd, and devoted member of her community, has passed away on October 18, 2023, in Easley, South Carolina. She was born on July 16, 1941, in Chicago, Illinois, to Wilbur Glenn Luther and Lillian Christina Louise Sippel Luther.

Laura's life was marked by a deep faith in the finished work of Jesus Christ, on the cross, and His transforming power to change a life that was submitted to Him. She had a twinkle in her eye and a ready smile that endeared her to all who knew her. She dedicated many years of her life as a missionary wife, living and working with her late husband, Louie Dodd, among the Aziana people group, in Papua New Guinea. Her selflessness and commitment to spreading the message of love and hope (Jesus) touched countless lives, leaving an indelible impact on the communities she served.

After returning from her overseas missionary work, Laura continued to make a difference within her local community, as an ambassador for Christ. She founded and owned a daycare business in Easley, South Carolina, where she nurtured and cared for numerous children over many years. Laura understood the importance of providing a safe and loving environment for young minds to grow and thrive.

In addition to her daycare business, Laura showcased her creativity through her cake decorating business. She had a remarkable talent for turning simple cakes into culinary masterpieces that brought joy to those who were fortunate enough to taste them. Through her cake decorating, Laura conveyed not only her incredible artistic skill, but also her love for and celebration of life's memorable moments. She taught English as a second language, for a number of years, as well.

Outside of her professional pursuits, Laura cherished time spent indulging in hobbies that brought her great joy. She was an amazing cook who made delicious biscuits, 7 layer casserole, deviled eggs, chicken Waikiki, beef stew, gingerbread boys, pumpkin pie, and Jello jigglers (for the great grandchildren), to name a “few” of her specialties. She truly enjoyed bringing happiness to others through her delectable treats. She made beautiful wedding cakes for all five of her children’s weddings. She was an excellent seamstress, keeping many of her loved ones clothed beautifully with her talent. She made bridesmaid dresses for three of her daughters’ weddings. In the company of dear friends, Laura delighted in engaging in board games and card games, fostering much laughter and sweet camaraderie. She is known for enjoying Play Nine, Triominoes, Ticket to Ride, and Trash. Her end of year game day and gift exchange was always anticipated with great fondness by all of her Game Day friends.

Laura leaves behind cherished memories in the hearts of those she held most dear. She enjoyed interacting with her grandchildren and great grandchildren, and was a loving grandmother. She is survived by her five children, fifteen grandchildren, and nine great grandchildren. She is loved and will be greatly missed by her son, Andrew "Brent" Dodd, his wife, Hollie Mae, their four children and eight grandchildren, (Andrew Dodd, his wife, Kayce, and their four children, Kaynen, Kamden, Hollis, and Josie Mae, Blake Dodd, his wife, Grace, and their four children, Wesley, Emma, Gracie Rose, and Abilene Clara, their older daughter, Amber Ferrell, her husband, Logan, and Brielle Dodd) her daughter, Amy Portugal, husband, Dan, and their three children (Kayla, Naomi, and Josiah), her daughter, Becky Grawehr, and her two daughters (Debbiegrace and Emma), her daughter, Karen Michaud, husband, Bill, their three children, and grandson (daughter Lucy Rumpf, husband, Nathan, with their son Otto, Oliver Michaud, Stuart Michaud, and his wife, Ashlyn), her daughter, Sharon Simpson, husband, John, and their three sons (Ethan, Luke, and Charlie).

Laura Marie Dodd's unwavering faith and firm dedication to serving others will forever be an inspiration to all who had the privilege of knowing her. Her legacy will continue to live on through the lives she touched during her time as an overseas missionary and ambassador for Christ, and through the love she shared with her family. As we mourn her passing, while celebrating a life well-lived, we find great solace in knowing that Laura has found eternal peace in the loving embrace of the Prince of Peace, her Savior, Jesus Christ. What a joy to know that she will forever live in the presence of God, enjoying all Jesus paid for. May all who come behind her be faithful to the calling of God on their life, to know Jesus and to make Him known, as good ambassadors, representing Jesus well, wherever they go.
