Larry Gene James

June 3, 1951 — November 26, 2023

Larry Gene James, known affectionately as Larry to his friends and family, passed away peacefully at his home on November 26, 2023, at the age of 72. Born on June 3, 1951, in Central, South Carolina, Larry's life was one marked by joy, laughter, and an unwavering dedication to his loved ones.

Larry's journey began as a young man in Central, where he attended local schools and completed his education through the 10th grade. He then met his loving wife, Linda Cooke, and got married on February 6, 1971. His strong work ethic and leadership qualities led him to a fulfilling career as a Floor Supervisor at Michelin, where he was respected and admired by his colleagues for his commitment and integrity.

Beyond his professional life, Larry was a man of many passions. He found solace with his wife in the great outdoors, whether they were camping under the stars, boating on serene lakes, fishing in the quiet early morning, hiking through the lush trails of South Carolina, or feeling the rush of adrenaline while drag racing. Their love for animals was evident in their enjoyment of horse riding, a hobby that allowed them to connect with nature and the majestic creatures they both so admired.

Those who knew Larry will remember him as a loving and funny individual, always ready with a joke to lighten the mood or a helping hand for those in need. His handy skills were a testament to his resourcefulness and ability to solve any problem that came his way.

Larry's legacy is carried on by his cherished family, including his devoted wife, Linda C James, with whom he shared a lifetime of memories and love until her untimely passing on September 25, 2023, at home as well. He was a proud father to his only child, a daughter, Crystal Newman, and a doting grandfather to Megan and Brandon (Ella) Newman. His joy was multiplied with the arrival of his great-grandchildren, Kyler, Kylin, Kylaiah Brown, and Kenneth and Julia Newman, who brought him immeasurable happiness.

He is also survived by his loving siblings, Linda, Carolyn, and her husband Joe, Violent and her husband Franklin, Ricky and his wife Diane, and Steve. His niece, Deb Blackwell, and her family, Jim, Ashley, Anthony, and Angie, will hold dear the memories of their fun-loving uncle. There are many more as this was a huge family with too many family members to list.

Larry's life was a tapestry of warm relationships and shared experiences. His presence was a source of comfort and laughter, and his absence will be deeply felt by all who had the privilege of knowing him.

As we bid farewell to Larry Gene James, we celebrate a life lived with love, humor, and a touch of adventure. His spirit will continue to inspire us, and his memory will be treasured in our hearts forever.
