Larry Wayne Cox

Larry Wayne Cox, Sr., a beacon of unwavering faith and boundless love, completed his earthly journey on December 4, 2024, in Duncan, South Carolina. Born on June 6, 1947, in Concord, North Carolina, to the late Garley Frank Cox and Myrtle Elizabeth Yost Cox, Larry's life was a testament to the power of devotion—to his God, family, and community. 

Larry's early years in Concord laid a strong foundation for the remarkable man he would become. A proud graduate of James F. Byrnes High School in 1965, he carried the lessons of his youth throughout his life, weaving them into the fabric of his daily existence. His work ethic was evident through his dedicated service at Springs Mill, Carmet, and Maintenance at Evangel Cathedral, and Lyman First Baptist Church. His leadership shone brightly during his time as an Associate Pastor at Ridgeview United Church. 

Larry's passion for the Lord was the cornerstone of his existence. He lived his life as a vessel of God's love, channeling his energy into praying, preaching, and ministering to others. His voice, a comforting presence in the pulpit, inspired countless individuals to seek a deeper connection with their faith. Larry's love for God and the Bible was not merely a part of who he was—it was the essence of his being. 

Family was Larry's anchor, his greatest joy, and his most cherished accomplishment. He was a devoted husband to his loving wife, Katherine Lynn Bruce Cox, and a guiding light to his children, the late Larry Wayne Cox Jr., and Iona Russell, along with her husband Jeffrey. His legacy continued through his grandchildren, Jeremiah Russell and his wife Calista, Destiny and her Husband Ethan Stroud, Zachariah Russell, and his great-grandson, Abner Stroud. Each of them carried a spark of Larry's spirit, a legacy of love that will burn brightly for generations to come. 

Larry's life was marked by the love he had for his siblings, including his late sister Linda Sue Austin Cox, his late brother Danny Cox, and his sister Sheila Cox Rickards. They shared a bond that transcended time and space, a connection rooted in shared memories and mutual respect. 

An avid runner and walker, Larry found solace and strength in the rhythm of his footsteps against the earth. It was during these moments of solitude that he often felt closest to God, reflecting on the beauty of creation and the blessings of life. His love for his grandchildren and great-grandson was as boundless as the open road, each step a silent prayer for their happiness and well-being.

 Larry was a man of passion and love, qualities that he poured into every aspect of his life. His presence was a source of comfort and inspiration, and his words were a balm to those in need of encouragement. To be in Larry's company was to feel seen, heard, and valued. He had a unique ability to lift the spirits of those around him, urging them to reach for their highest potential with a gentle, yet persuasive, nudge.
