Kristin Poole Helms, aged 76, passed peacefully at home surrounded by family on April 10, 2023, following a brief illness. She was born in Harriman, Tennessee, and grew up in Scottsboro, Alabama. She graduated from Auburn University with a Masters in Textiles Science. At Auburn, she was a member of Chi Omega Sorority and served on the Judiciary Council, among other campus activities. She worked at Procter & Gamble in Cincinnati, Ohio, where she was instrumental in product research on non-woven products. This is .where she met the love of her life and devoted husband of 50 years, Steve. They returned to the South and raised their children in Marietta, Oak Ridge, and Knoxville. Kristin is survived by her loving husband Steve, their three children, Lisa Helms Shaw [Kent] of Roswell, Georgia, Adam Helms [Lauren] of Ann Arbor, Michigan, and Amy Helms of Columbia, South Carolina, her seven grandchildren, Lindsey, Daniel, Caleb, Hayden, Jonah, Laura Grace, and Joshua, her brother Timothy Lewis Poole [Mary] and sister-in-law Jane Poole, and 7 nieces and nephews. Kristin was predeceased by her parents, Robert Charles (Buddy) Poole and Frieda Summers Poole, and her brother, Michael Alan Poole.
Kristin was a devoted mother, always very active with her children’s activities, supportive in immeasurable ways, and very proud of their accomplishments. She was a beloved grandmother who cherished spending time with her grandchildren. She loved cooking and baking, especially for her children’s birthdays, family at Thanksgiving and Christmas, and her homemade cookies, cakes, and pies were favorites of her grandkids.
Kristin loved to shop for and collect antique furniture and accessories such as crocks and baskets and was an exceptional home decorator. She loved gardening and landscaping and created several beautiful home landscapes at their homes in Marietta, Oak Ridge, Knoxville, Spartanburg, Wake Forest, Charlotte, Big Canoe, Clemson, and Greenville.
There will be a private Celebration of Life ceremony for the family in Atlanta. In lieu of flowers, donations in her memory may be sent to Hospice and Palliative Care Palmetto Region
