On the morning of September 20th, 2023, Kimberly Bea Watkins, known as "I Bea Me," passed away at her home, surrounded by her partner, Dean Sellars, and her cherished dog, "Angel." Born in Gastonia, NC, on June 21st, 1962, she was the daughter of the late Calvin Edney Jones, Sr., and Joyce Palmer Sherbert. She is survived by her beloved stepfather, Tommy Sherbert of Spartanburg.
During her early years, Kim showcased her talents by singing and playing drums in her family's Christian gospel band, "The Singing Jones Family." She had a knack for drawing, beauty/hairstyling, and sewing fashionable clothing for her brothers and friends. As soon as she could, she started working as a restaurant waitress and, at the age of 23, got married and became the proud, loving mother to her daughter, Melissa. She later ventured into freelance house painting, working across North Carolina, South Carolina, and Virginia.
She was known for her free-spirited nature, resilience, originality, grit and self-reliance. Many recall her as a resourceful and spontaneous woman who loved being outside and who enjoyed driving and exploring the southeastern states in her van. In recent years, Kim led a simple and content life at home with her partner, dog, and housemate.
In addition to her partner and stepfather, Kim is survived by her daughter, Melissa Watkins Lago (Louie) of Parker, Colorado, and her two siblings, Calvin Jones of Spartanburg and Derek Jones (Darlene) of Inman. She is also survived by her former husband, Ricky Watkins of Spartanburg, stepdaughter, Mandy Watkins Dabbs of Spartanburg, and her two beloved grandchildren, Milania and Salvatore Lago.
Kim's untamed, caring, and creative spirit will forever reside in our hearts. May we find solace in the cherished memories we created with her. Rest peacefully, Kim, in your happiness and freedom. You will always be loved and remembered.
