Kerry Hedlund

December 15, 1956 — August 24, 2023

Kerry passed away last Thursday evening after battling cancer for the past year. She left this
world and entered her residence in Heaven while surrounded by her husband and children and one of
her 15 grandchildren. Kerry was known for her magnetic personality, giving spirit and her deep love for
and trust in her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. Kerry displayed grace, mercy, kindness and a desire to
serve everyone she met. She has numerous relationships from childhood to current that she nurtured
with great love and determination. She will be missed greatly. She is a native of Mount Pleasant
Pennsylvania. After graduating with honors, she worked for West Penn Power Co near Pittsburgh. Her
family moved to Lexington Kentucky where she established many more lifetime friends. After coming to
Greenville in 1993 she worked at Pelham Road Elementary as a reading assistant. She started working
for M.B.Kahn construction company in 2000. She was still employed when she passed. Her bravery and
positive spirit amazed us all while she battled her cancer.
She will be deeply missed by her grateful and loving husband Paul. He cherished every moment
of their 19 years in marriage residing in Simpsonville SC. She has two children from her first marriage,
Joshua Slater of Miami Florida and Megan Smith of Sarasota Florida. Megan is married to Adam Smith
and they have 3 children Cameron, Gabriel and Mason. Kerry had 3 step children that she treated as her
own. They are Todd Hedlund of Belton SC, Natalie Kaufman of Anderson SC and Travis Hedlund of Pelzer
SC. Their spouses are Sarah Hedlund, Brian Kaufman and Haley Hedlund. Todd’s children are Cole,
Aubrey, Holland Tucker, Larkyn, Saylor and Sutton to be born soon. Natalie’s children are Roman, Zoe
and Eden. Travis’s children are Ava Jane, Able and Amos. Grammy loved all of her children and
grandchildren deeply and will be missed beyond measure. She was the center of our family.
She is also survived by her mother Henrietta Balcerek of Mt Pleasant PA. She has 3 brothers,
Tom married to Marcy with children Emmy and Benjamin, Chris married to Juri with daughter Mia and
Scott married to Marisa Balcerek. Her sister is Diane Lingenfield married to Jim with 2 sons Matt and
Michael. She also has numerous cousins, aunts and uncles that adored her.
There is a celebration of life service at Brookwood Church in Simpsonville SC. Kerry was a loved
and active member of the congregation. She performed pre- marital, marital and individual counseling
at Brookwood for more than a decade. Many have been influenced by her faith and wisdom and we look
forward to celebrating her with you at noon on Friday, September 1 st .
We would ask that in lieu of flowers you contribute to either Brookwood Church or The Haven
of Rest ministry in Anderson SC. Both are very dear to her heart and our family. We will work with the
church to establish a bench in the outdoor baptismal with her name on it.
