Kenneth Kevin Whitt, age 54, passed away Dec 15. He was from Greer, SC and currently living in Saudi Arabia with his wife of 10 years, Dr. Selma Sunila Chopra of Eluru, India, and their son Danny age 4.
He was the son of Kenneth Whitt of Greer and Karen Sampier of San Diego, CA. He is predeceased by an older sister Doreen, grandparents Amos and Willie Mae Whitt of Greer and Leonard and Frankie Sampier of California. He is survived by a sister, Kathy Edwards (Michael), nephew Adam, and niece Kelly, and many extended family members that he cherished.
Kevin was a graduate if J.F. Byrnes High and afterward joined the Army, attached to the 101st Airborne Division. Many years later he attended North Greenville University, graduating Magna Cum Laude earning a Bachelors Degree in Church Music and a Masters Degree in Christian Ministry. He served at different times as Minister of Music and other capacities at Inman First Baptist Church, Hodges Church of God, Greenwood, and Mon Aetna Baptist Church, Union. He wished nothing more than to share his love of music, faith and his knowledge of Christ to each member and express to others the love to other that Christ showed to all.
Kevin and Selma moved from to South Carolina, to the Karimganj District of Assam, India where Selma served as OB-Gyn consultant at Makunda Christian Hospital. Kevin served as chaplain and worship leader, as well as, Teacher of Morals and Values at Makunda Christian School. From there they moved to Chennai, India where Kevin taught Voice and Music at the Academy of Western Music while attending the University of Madras, earning the degree of Master of Philosophy in Christian Studies. They had lived 4 years in India and in 2017 Selma took a job at Al-Quareea Hospital in the Mecca Region of Saudia Arabia. Here Kevin had the privilege of devoting most of his time to raising their son. He was a loving father and never hesitated to show Danny love and attention. He valued this time and even though he desired to pursue a doctorate degree, he chose to give this time to his wife and son. He never hesitated to jump in and explore his new surroundings and loved to document these adventures with beautiful photography. He always embraced the culture around him and invested time in the lives of those living around him. Many times language was a barrier, but his smile and welcoming way always bridge the gap that words could not. The love he showed will make Kevin missed by many people around the world.
