Kenneth Lamar Whiten, known affectionately as Kenneth to his friends and family, passed away peacefully at his home on April 9, 2024, at the age of 76. Born on August 7, 1947, in Toccoa, GA, Kenneth was a man whose warmth and humor brought light into the lives of all who knew him.
Kenneth is survived by his loving wife Miriam Lewis Whiten), son Michael Whiten (Mandy) from Elberton Georgia, Step Daughter Jennifer Straw and Step Son Jerome Straw both from Austin Texas, devoted brother Bobby R Whiten from Piedmont and also survived by his Sister in Law Marti Yates from Simpsonville, Sister in Law Marilyn Henderson from Easley, Brother in Law Larry Lewis(Emma) from Liberty and three grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. who will continue to honor Kenneth's legacy by living out their cherished values.
Kenneth was predeceased by his loving parents, William Sam Whiten and JoAnn Whiten, his brother William Eddie Whiten (Cathy), and his sisters, Lynn Smith and Lydia Whiten.
A man of the outdoors, Kenneth's passions included fishing, camping, and bird watching. His love for nature was only matched by his commitment to his community, as evidenced by his active membership in the American Legion chapter of the Disabled American Veterans (D.A.V.). and as a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Travelers Rest Post 10058. He was a friend to many, always ready with a funny story or a kind word, and his presence was a source of joy at every gathering.
Kenneth's sense of humor was legendary, and this trait often made him the heart and soul of any occasion. He had a unique ability to find the funny in the mundane, and his laughter was infectious. Those who knew him will remember his quick wit and the twinkle in his eye as he delivered a punchline.
As we bid farewell to Kenneth, we celebrate a life well-lived, full of laughter, love, and the simple pleasures that make life worth living.
