Kathy Black Hedgepath, a beacon of love and courage, passed away on July 18, 2024, in her hometown of Spartanburg, SC, at the age of 65. Born on October 30, 1958, to Margaret and William Black, Kathy's life was a testament to the power of faith, the warmth of family, and the joy of simple pleasures.

Kathy's early years were spent in Spartanburg, where she attended Dorman High School. She majored in Psychology at USCS, laying the foundation for her future endeavors as a resource manager and youth and family counselor. Kathy's professional life was marked by her unwavering commitment to helping others, a trait that endeared her to all who knew her.

Kathy's life was rich with interests that reflected her vibrant spirit. She was an avid arts and crafts enthusiast, a talent that brought beauty into the lives of those around her. Her garden was a canvas of color, reflecting her love for nature and her skill in nurturing growth. Kathy's flair for home decorating turned her living spaces into warm, inviting havens, while her culinary skills were a source of delight at family dinners and holidays. 

Traveling was one of Kathy's joys, as she sought adventure and new experiences with an open heart. A Gamecock fan, she shared her enthusiasm for sports with friends and family, creating a legacy of spirited camaraderie. Kathy's love for reading opened worlds of imagination and knowledge, a gift she cherished deeply.

Her nephews, Joshua Reynolds and Jacob Jalbert, held a special place in Kathy's heart. She was a guiding light in their lives, sharing in their triumphs and offering comfort in times of need. The steeplechase at Aiken was a treasured tradition for Kathy, a day of excitement and elegance that she looked forward to each year.

Christmas was Kathy's favorite time of year, a season that captured her generous spirit and love for family. Kathy's dog, Cody, was her faithful companion, a source of joy and comfort throughout the years.

Predeceased by her grandparents, Clinton and Lois Smith, and her sister, Tracy Lynn Black, Kathy's legacy of love and compassion lives on through her mother, Margaret; her father, William Black; her sister, Cindy Seay; her cherished nephews, Joshua and Jacob.
