Kathryn Elizabeth Arnold, passed suddenly on December 24, 2022. A daughter of the late Phillip Vernon and Eva Raikes, Kathryn was born in Macclesfield, Cheshire, England. A member of the Daughters of the British Empire, Kathryn was extremely proud of her of British heritage as her family for generations served in the Royal Navy. Her strong love of family and heritage was part of who she was a person. Kathryn was an avid baker, and she enjoyed sharing her treats with friends and family. She also loved crafts, particularly knitting, and she was very proud to use her talent to help those in need, donating many knitted blankets for babies and hats for the elderly cancer patients.
Kathryn loved animals, her favorite was the special bond that she had with her dog, Maise. As a child, Kathryn developed a loved for animals as one day she was playing outside of her childhood home and she found a very small hedgehog in the hedges. She cared for that little hedgehog each day. As she grew older, she began to collect hedgehog figurines of all shapes and sizes. She had everything from hedgehog lawn ornaments to socks. All things hedgehog brought her a lot of joy. As everyone who has a sibling can appreciate, once Kathryn began to build her collection it too rubbed off on her sister, Jennifer who also became an avid collector as well.
Kathryn is survived by her husband, David George D. Arnold; daughter, Jenny-Marie Bryant and husband Ben; granddaughter, Jayden Makenlee; Nephews, Christopher Wayles (sons Josh & Ben) and Simon Wayles (Mandy), Darren Hulme and family, Stephen Hulme (Kirsty), and Jason Hulme and family.
She was preceded in death by a brother, David Wayles and his wife Cynthia; and a sister, Jennifer Bolshaw, her husband John and their daughter Judith Susan.
Kathy had a love for life, and her great pride and joy was her granddaughter, Jayden Makenlee. She grew up with a rich heritage and a strong sense of family, and has passed that heritage on to Jayden. If you saw them out together at a rodeo or choir concert, you could see their generational bond.
A memorial service will be held Wednesday, 11th January, 2023 at 11 AM in the Chapel at Cremation Society of SC-Westville Funerals, 6010 White Horse Rd., Greenville, SC 29611.
