Karen “Kay” Jane Rhodes, 62, of Greenville went home with her Savior on Wednesday, May 25, 2022. She was joyously reunited with her daughter Holly as she transitioned to her eternal residence. Even though we mourn the loss of Kay, we remember the wonderful days we were blessed to spend with her.
Born on July 30, 1959 in Longview, Washington, Kay was the daughter of Juanita Carson and the late William “Bill” Thompson. She was the beloved wife of Terry Rhodes for 45 years. Kay loved her job at Walmart and retired from the company after being employed with them for over 20 years. Perhaps her most favorite job, however, was being mom to her children Holly and Dusty and grandma to her treasured grandchildren.
Kay enjoyed weekly trips to Rose’s and Hamrick’s with her mom, coffee and cook outs with her sisters, and watching her “stories” every afternoon.
In addition to her mother and husband, she is survived by her son, Dusty Rhodes; five grandchildren - Will, Hailey, Madison, Sunny Caroline, and Layla; three sisters - Debra Hendricks, Cindy Winchester, and Kristi Hooper (Chuck); one brother - Stanley Thompson (Veronica);
nine nieces and nephews; and a host of great nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her daughter, Holly Rhodes.
Kay was loved by all who knew her and will be greatly missed by her entire family and many friends. She will forever be remembered for her fun-loving spirit and love of rainbows. She brought so much joy to everyone around her. As one last act of generosity and heroism, Kay was able to donate her liver in memory of her late daughter so that another person in need would have a second chance at life. Thanks to her gift of life, Kay’s legacy will live on for years to come.
Please join us in a Celebration of Life on Wednesday, June 1 at 3:30 pm at Cremation Society of South Carolina - Westville Funerals, 6010 White Horse Road, Greenville, SC 29611 with private cremation to commence after the services.
