Juan Rafael Mercado Sanchez, known affectionately as Juan or Randy to his loved ones, passed away on April 10, 2025, in Taylors, South Carolina. Born on January 11, 1970, in the vibrant heart of Puerto Rico, Juan's life was a testament to his loving nature, his humor, and his selfless disposition.

Juan's early years in Puerto Rico laid the foundation for a life filled with adventure and the joy of creating with his hands. His talents led him to a fulfilling career where he excelled as a truck driver, a skilled cabinet maker, and a master of renovations. Juan's work was not just a job; it was a canvas where he expressed his passion for craftsmanship and his ability to transform the ordinary into the extraordinary.

Those who knew Juan understood his love for the simple pleasures in life. He was an avid enthusiast of guns and ammo, finding solace in the focus and skill that shooting required. He was an excellent juvenile bowler and also a master billiard player. His adventurous spirit was evident in his love for walking and exploring, always seeking new horizons and experiences. Juan's affinity for animals was undeniable, a love he shared with his cherished pets, Luna and Buttercup.

Juan's interests were as varied as they were intense. He had a keen eye for knives and cabinetry, a reflection of his appreciation for fine detail and functionality. Traveling was more than a hobby for Juan; it was a way of connecting with the world and the diverse cultures within it. Above all, he valued the time spent with friends and family, offering help whenever needed and sharing in the joy and sorrow of those he held dear.

His legacy is carried on by his loving family, including his fiancée, Jennifer Lynn Hendrickson, who stood by him with unwavering support and love. Juan's children, Gabriel "Gaby" Mercado Guzman and Marta Mercado Mendez, will forever cherish the memories and lessons their father imparted. His stepdaughter, Frances Mendez, and stepson Christian, will remember Juan as a guiding presence in their life. Though his relationships with Virginia Mendez Rivera and Doreen Del Campillo had changed over the years, the shared history and mutual respect remained.

Juan's brother, Gustavo "Gus" Mercado Sanchez, along with his sister-in-law, Desiree "Desi" Muñiz Fernandez, will hold onto the bond of family that Juan valued so deeply. His nephews, Gustavo "Tandrit" Mercado Muñiz and Jose Mercado Muñiz, will miss their uncle's humor and guidance. Special friends Christopher and Robbi Thompson, along with second cousin Orazio Thompson, will recall Juan's laughter and companionship.

Juan was preceded in death by his parents, Martha Sanchez Espinosa and Juan Mercado Melendez, whose love and teachings shaped the man he became. His life was enriched by the presence of many other friends and relatives, each of whom added a unique thread to the tapestry of his life.

Juan's impact on the world was marked by his ability to bring light into the lives of others. His selfless nature often led him to put the needs of others before his own, a trait that endeared him to all who knew him. His sense of humor was a source of comfort and joy, and his loving approach to life was a beacon for those seeking warmth and kindness.
