Joyce York

August 8, 1941 — March 21, 2025

Joyce York, a beacon of love and faith, passed away at her home on March 21, 2025, at the age of 83. Born on August 8, 1941, in Greenville, SC, Joyce's life was a testament to her unwavering spirit and the joy she brought to those around her.

Joyce was the cherished daughter of the late Alma Guthrie and Boyce Helton, and she grew up alongside her siblings, the late Clarence Helton, and Bobbie Guthrie. Her family was the cornerstone of her life, and she embraced her role as a loving sister, mother, and grandmother with grace and devotion.

Joyce's journey through life was marked by her commitment to her family and her faith. She was a proud graduate of Rhema Bible College, where she deepened her understanding of the scriptures that guided her path. Her education there was not just for her personal growth but also served as a foundation for her work as a caregiver—a role she fulfilled until her retirement. Joyce's caring nature and wisdom made her a source of comfort and strength to those she helped.

Her love for her family was immeasurable. Joyce was a devoted mother to her children, Reba "Tina" Kahla, Beauford "Tad" Hartin, and the late Debra and Kay Greer. She was a nurturing presence in the lives of her grandchildren, Angel McGuire, Adam and Laura Radford, Willis Hartin, and the late Jerry Hartin. Her legacy continued to flourish through her 12 great-grandchildren and 3 great-great-grandchildren, who brought her immense joy and pride.

Joyce's nurturing spirit extended beyond her human family to her beloved dogs, Baby and Micco, who were her constant companions. She was also a cherished aunt to her 7 nieces and 4 nephews, each of whom held a special place in her heart.

Gardening was Joyce's passion, and she found solace and happiness in the beauty of nature. Her garden was a reflection of her inner beauty—colorful, vibrant, and full of life. She also had a talent for sewing, creating beautiful pieces for her loved ones to cherish. Reading was another of Joyce's favorite pastimes, and she often could be found with a book in hand, especially her Bible, which was her source of wisdom and strength.

Those who knew Joyce would describe her as loving, faith-filled, and wise. She lived her life with a quiet dignity and a strength that inspired all who were fortunate enough to know her. Her unwavering faith was the compass by which she navigated life's challenges, and her loving nature was the warmth that comforted many.

Joyce's memory will be held dear by those who survive her: her sister Bobbie Guthrie; her daughter Tina Kahla; her son Tad Hartin; her grandchildren; her great-grandchildren; her great-great-grandchildren; her nieces and nephews; and her two dogs. Her legacy of love and faith will continue to live on in the hearts of those she touched.

Joyce's life was a beautiful tapestry woven with threads of love, faith, and wisdom. As we bid farewell to this remarkable woman, we celebrate the profound impact she had on our lives and the memories we will forever hold dear. Joyce York will be deeply missed, but her spirit will continue to guide us, just as the stars guide the night sky.

The memorial will be held at a later date.
