Joyce Hiller Tucker, 89, of Greenville, beloved wife of Greene Franklin Tucker, Jr. died Saturday, February 27, 2021, at home. Joyce was the third child and only daughter of the late Robert Ellis and Beryl Garrison Hiller and sister to brothers Robert Ellis Hiller, Joseph William Hiller, and Carl Julian Hiller. She grew up in Greenville and attended Donaldson School, Augusta Circle, Greenville Jr. and Sr. High, and Furman University.
Joyce was a lifelong Lutheran and was baptized as an infant at the Lutheran Church in Greenwood and confirmed at Trinity Lutheran Church in Greenville. In 1948, a group of Lutherans met with Pastor Bill Schaffer, who was canvassing the Augusta Street, Cleveland Street to Parkins Mill Road to form the second Lutheran Church in Greenville. Joyce became one of the Charter members of St. Michael and was the last living member still active at the church.
Joyce and Frank were married on Sept. 15, 1951, and were happily married for 69 years. Their first child, Elaine, was born in March of 1953 and Susan in July of 1954. In 1958, their son Frank III was born.
When the children were older, Joyce worked with her mother, Beryl Hiller, in Greenville’s first Merle Norman Cosmetics franchise and became the second of four generations to own their own studios. Joyce’s daughters, Elaine and Susan, were third-generation owners and her granddaughter, Jessica, is keeping the legacy alive.
In addition to her husband Frank, Joyce is survived by two daughters, Elaine T. Finley (Dan), and Susan T. Grant, a son Greene Franklin Tucker, III (Debra), six grandchildren, Heather Awtry, Jessica Carter (Tyler), Stephanie Moscaritolo (Adam), James Tucker (Shaunna), Catherine Finley, Michael Tucker, and eight great-grandchildren.
Sweet Joyce lived her faith with grace. She was a joy for all who knew her. She was the epitome of the phrase, “Beautiful inside and out”. God’s Peace.
