Joyce Rammel

Joyce Rammel, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend, passed away peacefully on January 14, 2025, at the age of 87 in Greenville, SC. She was born on July 27, 1937, in Akron, OH, to the late Franklin V. and Theodora Thompson. She was predeceased by her beloved husband Gerald (Gerry) Rammel, brother Franklin V. (Tommy) Thompson, and daughter Julie McIntosh.

Joyce leaves behind a legacy of love and cherished memories. She is survived by her children: Susan Marie (Linda), Kenneth Hill (Stephanie) Jeannette, Jeanne Vermillion, and Denise Varner (Robert). She was a loving grandmother to thirteen grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren, as well as a loving aunt to her nieces and nephews. 

A native of Akron Ohio, Joyce attended King Elementary, Buchtel High, and went on to graduate from the University of Akron. Thereafter she married and started her family as a housewife and mother. She was a master at sewing and personally created much of the family's wardrobe. Christmas was the best time of the year and she always made the best Christmas ever for her children. When her first marriage ended she found a job as a paralegal for BD&B. She worked full time many years and singlehandedly supported her household and three children. Her unconditional love and support of her family's wellbeing were always paramount and of most importance to her. Then she met her second husband Gerry, who also had three children, and the two families combined in a Brady Bunch fashion. They eventually relocated to Greenville SC.

In her free time, Joyce enjoyed traveling and visiting with friends & family. She enjoyed the theatre and attending plays & shows. She was a maestro of sewing arts as well as being an award winning artist herself. She was sharp as a tack, strong-willed, always busy with a project on her mind, and she always took care of her family. 

Joyce's departure from this world leaves a void that cannot be filled, but her spirit will continue to live on through the hearts and memories of all those who knew and loved her. She will be remembered as a loving mother, a devoted wife, a cherished grandmother, a loving aunt, and a remarkable friend. 

Her Celebration of Life service will be held in Greenville at St. Peters Episcopal Church, 910 Hudson Rd, on Thursday, January 30, 2025, at 2:00 pm.
