Joseph Earl Rauton died gently and peacefully in his home on June 22 in Greenville, SC at the age of 71.
Earl is survived by his wife Jerrie; daughters Kelli Barker and April Jeffress; his two very loved grandsons Dylan and Riley Jeffress; his brother Terry Rauton, and his sister Rucia Rauton.
Earl was born in 1946 in Anderson, SC and raised by his strong and spirited mom, Thelma. He graduated from Chicora High School in Charleston and married his high school sweetheart, Jerrie. As a young man, Earl proudly served in the National Guard. Several years later, the couple started their family, having two daughters. Earl was so proud of his girls. They admired his determination to give them a wonderful life and they loved his humor and his infectious spirit for life; so did everyone who ever met him.
After several jobs, he found his true passion when he went to work for Mr. John Barker at Barker Air & Hydraulics in Greenville. He began in sales and enthusiastically worked to become SC Sales Manager. He truly loved his job and the family of people he talked and laughed with for so many years. Even in his final days, he wished his body would become strong enough for him to do his job.
Besides work, Earl loved spending time with his brother, Terry. Playing golf was just an excuse to be together. Earl was also very close to his mom and spent much time with her until her passing just 2 months ago. Earl’s absolutely favorite pass time was attending his grandson’s soccer games and cheering them on. The boys always tried to make a goal for Papa.
Earl and Jerrie were married 52 years. Jerrie, along with their little buddy Max, and family were by his side to the end. His sister Rucia’s presence provided a beautiful comfort that can never be described but forever will be loved and appreciated. A celebration of Earl’s life and his mom’s life will be held at The Monastery of Saint Clare in Travelers Rest July 12 at 2:00. The family would like to thank the hospital staff at Rogers C Peace and MUSC and his home caregivers for their efforts, care and dedication.
