Joseph Freeman Dickey, beloved husband, father, and grandfather died on June 7, 2023. He was born in Orange County, NC, April 1, 1934 to Joseph and Malifornia Dickey, and grew up on a dairy/tobacco farm with 5 siblings. While serving in the 82nd Airborne, US Army, at Ft. Bragg, NC, he met Anne, and they were married on August 29, 1959. He earned his Bachelor’s and Master's Degrees from NC State and PhD from Penn State. He and Anne then moved to Clemson, where he served on the Clemson University Faculty for 29 years. He was recognized for his focus on his students and on teaching, and received the Alumni Master Teacher award. After leaving Clemson University at the age of 59, his love of teaching led him to the financial industry where he taught financial literacy. He spent much of his later years caring for his wife Anne before she passed on May 16, 2021. He was a very faithful and active member of Ft. Hill Presbyterian Church. He is survived by his two children: Katrina Janes, John Dickey; sister: Faye Burgner (Chuck); brother: William Dickey (Edna); and 2 grandchildren: Hunter Janes, Johnna Dickey.
A celebration of Joe Dickey's life will be held on Sunday, July 30, 2023, at Fort Hill Presbyterian Church, 101 Edgewood Ave, Clemson. The service time will be 2 pm, with a light reception to follow.
