Jonnie Valeria “Val” Maples, 71, went home to be with her Lord on December 30, 2016. She was born in Venice, Florida to John Reuben Maples and the late Malitie Elizabeth Hall Maples.
In addition to her father, she is survived by nephew, Danny (Nora) White, niece Jane (Ron) Brookshire, great nieces, Hannah, Lydia, Jamie, and Christine as well as great nephews, Ethan, Luke, Ian, Phillip, Erik, and Noel. She is also survived by niece-in-law, Ann White, brother-in-law, Frank White, Uncle Tom (Stella) Maples as well as numerous cousins.
She is predeceased by her sister, Myrtle White, nephew, Jonathan White, niece-in-law, Jenny White, great nephew, Little Danny and step-mother, Doris Maples.
After graduating West Mecklenburg High School, Val worked as a telephone operator for over 27 years and was then employed with Bethel Day Care for 14 years. She faithfully attended Holmes Memorial Church as long as her health allowed.
She loved to travel and had been to Canada and the Holy Land several times along with various trips across the United States. She loved photography and videography and was also an avid Greenville Braves and Atlanta Braves baseball fan. She enjoyed spending time with family and friends and was blessed with a wonderful sense of humor.
Her favorite Bible passages include Psalm 91, which she would frequently pass out in written form to family and friends, and Psalm 30:5b, “Weeping may endure for a night, but joy cometh in the morning.”
The family will receive friends at 2:00 PM on Thursday, January 5th, at Westville Funeral Home, 6010 White Horse Road, Greenville, SC, with the memorial service immediately following at 2:30 PM.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in memory of Val Maples to The Cancer Center of Greenville, Holmes Bible College and Holmes Memorial Church.
