Born in Chester, SC he was the son of Everett Roy Woodell and Dorothy Napper Woodell.
Survivors include his wife of the home, Angela Adams Woodell, his daughter, Jennifer Kaitlyn Woodell, and one brother, Ronald Woodell.
John enjoyed sailing and canoeing he served in the US Army and was of the Baptist Faith.
