John Michael Spelts
April 29, 1988 — April 18, 2024
Greenville, SC
John Michael Spelts, affectionately known as "The Speltz" to his friends embarked on his final mountain trek on
April 18th, 2024. Born on April 29th, 1988, in the town of Greenville, South Carolina, Spelts lived a life marked by laughter, love, and a keen intelligence that endeared him to all who had the pleasure of crossing his path.
Spelts dedicated many years of his life as an Outfitter and Merchandising Specialist at Bass Pro Cabelas in his hometown. Spelts's ability to genuinely connect with people, coupled with his infectious and quirky sense of humor, ensured that any customer who walked through the doors at Bass Pro would leave as a friend.
On the day of his peaceful passing at McCalls Hospice House, Spelts was surrounded by the tranquil beauty of nature that he so loved. His spirit remains a guiding light for those he has left behind, including his uncle, Greg Burgess, and his two cousins, Adam and Chris Burgess. Spelts's legacy is also carried forward by his earthly family, the close-knit group of friends, and fellow outfitters from Bass Pro Cabelas. This band of brothers and sisters in the great outdoors shared not just a workplace with Spelts, but countless memories filled with joy and camaraderie.
Among those who will keenly feel the loss of Spelts are his dear friends Judy Huckabee, Margaret Hayes, Miles, Jordan, Chad, Brad, Jennifer, Josh, Courtney, and Rachael. Each of these individuals, along with anyone who had the fortune to know him, will forever treasure the moments spent in his company. Spelts's warm presence, quick wit, profound imagination, and brilliant mind made every encounter with him a memorable one.
Spelts was a man who could light up a room with his brand of humor. He had a natural gift for making people feel valued and heard, and his intelligence was matched only by his capacity for empathy. Spelts was a friend who could offer both a joke to lift your spirits, or a shoulder to cry on when necessary.
As we say farewell to "The Speltz", we take comfort in knowing that Spelts has been welcomed with open arms into eternal peace. "May the blood of Christ cover him, and his family, and all of John's friends so that we can all be together very soon," remains our heartfelt prayer.
A Celebration of Life will be held on his birthday this coming Monday, April 29th at 6:00 PM in the Chapel of McCalls Hospice House in Simpsonville, SC.
