John " Scott " Mathews, 66, of Simpsonville, South Carolina, passed away peacefully Tuesday, February 6, 2018 with his loving wife by his side at the National Healthcare Center in Greenville. He was born on August 1, 1951 in Elmira, New York to his parents, Melvin Randolph Mathews and Joyce Lucille (Black) Mathews and was one of three children.
He was a graduate of Florida State University and worked in the Car Dealership Industry, most recently for Fairway Ford in Greenville. Scott was a faithful and active member of Holy Cross Episcopal Church where he volunteered across many ministries. In his spare time, he loved hiking, listening to live music with his wife, and spending time with his grandchildren.
Among those who will cherish his memory are his wife of 31 years, Nancy L. Robbins Mathews of Simpsonville, South Carolina; his daughter, Elizabeth Head and her husband, Benjamin of Punta Gorda, Florida; his son, Jack Mathews and his wife, Cara of Henrico, Virginia; his mother, Lucille “ Lu ” Foust of Fort Myers, Florida; his brothers, Thomas Mathews of Birmingham, Alabama and Douglas Mathews and his wife, Satee of Casselbury, Florida; his grandchildren, Mary Mathews Head, Henry Head and Mason Mathews.
A memorial service to remember and honor Scott’s life will be at 11:00 A.M. Saturday, February 10, 2018 at the Holy Cross Episcopal Church, 205 East College, Simpsonville, South Carolina 29681. Committal of Scott’s remains will follow the services in the Columbarium at the Church A reception will be held following the services in the parish hall at the church.
