John Carroll Rushing, Jr “Bubba” died peacefully at home on October 23 in Greenville, SC at the age of 58 with his wife, Teri, by his bedside after battling a terminal illness for 5 years.
Bubba is survived by his,wife, Teri Walker Rushing, his parents J. Carroll Rushing, Sr. of Greenville, SC and Betty Rushing of Savannah, GA; siblings, Mitch Rushing (Kathie) and Lynn Rushing Freeman, both of Atlanta, GA, and Susan Rushing of Washington DC. He was a loving uncle to Blair Rushing, Julia (Kevin) Hollingshead, Garrett Freeman (Katie), Savannah Freeman, Isabel “Izzi” Gorden, Philip Rushing, and Colin Rushing. He is preceded in death by his beloved son, Trent Quinn.
Bubba was born on August 19th in Savannah, GA. He attended Greenville High School and graduated from the University of SC in 1983 with a B.S. in Business Administration. While at USC, he was an active member of the Delta Chapter of the Sigma Nu Fraternity and was the Founder of the Carolina/ Clemson Game Ball Run. He married Teri, the love of his life in 1987.
Bubba loved life and embraced it with passion. He was an avid tennis player, competitor, and mentor. His life was about adventure and he lived passionately with his forever love “Baby Precious” (Teri) by his side for 31 years. He was a generous and caring individual who loved helping others and was passionate about medical research. After much personal research, he was convinced that CTE contributed to his illness and decided to participate in the CTE Research Study at Emory. He donated his brain ad spinal cord in hopes that a cure will be found soon.
A Celebration of Life in Greenville, SC will be held at Riverbend Condominium Clubhouse (925 Cleveland Street) on November 10th from 6-9 PM. All are welcome to attend and celebrate Bubba's life. An additional Celebration of Life will be held in the upcoming months for all Florida friends in Boca Raton, FL where his ashes will be spread along with his son, Trent.
