John David King, known affectionately as John passed away peacefully at his home on September 24, 2023. Born on August 16, 1930, in Ware Place, South Carolina, John was a beacon of love, wisdom, and spirit throughout his 93 years of life.
John was the cherished son of the late Bessie Campbell King and Horace Greely King, Sr. He was the beloved brother of James Milford King, Charles Hugh King, Horace Greely King, Jr., Mary Alice Thurston, and J. Harold Samuel King, all of whom predeceased him. He is survived by his sister, Sarah Francis Gillespie, who will remember him fondly.
John was the devoted husband of the late Gladys Ramey King and the proud father of Joyce King-Smith and the late Donald Joseph King. His love for his family was evident in his dedication to them, and his wisdom and spirited nature were a guiding light for all who knew him.
John was a doting grandfather to Jamey Christina O'Neill, David Joseph King, Travy Lee King, and Lisa King Stamey. He was predeceased by his grandsons, Jeremy Travis Smith and Shane Mitchell King. John's love extended to his great-grandchildren, David Bruce O'Neill, Kristin Caitlin O'Neill, and Hannah Nicole Tye Smith. He also held a special place in his heart for his youngest great-grandchildren, Zoey, Kobe, Kylee, River, Bear, and Lizy.
John's life was marked by an unwavering love for his family and a deep wisdom that he generously shared with those around him. His spirited nature brought joy and laughter to family gatherings, and his stories and advice will be remembered and cherished by his loved ones.
