John Robert Franke

John Robert Franke, known affectionately as John, passed away peacefully on November 11, 2023, in Greenville, South Carolina. Born on April 9, 1951, in Flushing, New York, John was a loving, funny, and gentle soul who touched the lives of many.

John was the cherished husband of Barbara Franke, and the proud father of two sons, Michael and Robbie, both of whom followed in their father's footsteps to serve as Marines. He was predeceased by his parents, Edward and Virginia Franke, and is survived by his brother, Ronnie Franke, and sister, Denise Potter. John was also a doting grandfather to four grandchildren, who brought immense joy and laughter into his life.

John was a skilled carpenter by trade, a profession he took great pride in. His work was a testament to his meticulous nature and dedication. He also held a degree in Diesel and Heavy Equipment Mechanics from Greenville Tech, showcasing his diverse talents and interests. John was an avid fan of John Wayne, often quoting his favorite lines and sharing his love for the iconic actor's films with family and friends.

In his free time, John was an enthusiastic outdoorsman. He found peace and tranquility in fishing and hunting, often inviting his sons and later his grandchildren to join him. He also enjoyed reloading, a skill he passed down to his family. John's love for literature was evident in his admiration for Louis L'Amour, whose books he often read and reread.

John's sense of humor and gentle nature made him a beloved figure in his community. His love for his family was evident in every aspect of his life, from his dedication to his work to his hobbies. He was a man of integrity and kindness, always ready with a joke or a comforting word.
