John Maxcy “Max” Cochran, Jr, son of the late John Maxcy and Tommie Farr Cochran died of complications from dementia on November 30, 2021. He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Diane, his daughter, Leslie Magee, his sons, John and Julian Cochran, his eight grandchildren Carter Magee, Julia Tangires (Jimmy), Caroline Weiss (Scott), Tyler Cochran, Mason Cochran, Franny Cochran, Ellen Cochran, and Elliott Cochran, and extended family.
A graduate of Greenville High School, Georgia Tech, and MIT, Max worked in engineering for the textile industry for most of his career. An active Episcopalian, he served on the Vestry at Christ Episcopal Church Greenville and as Senior Warden at St Mary’s Episcopal High Point, NC. Max also served on the board of Christ Church Episcopal School and as its Chairman for two terms.He was a past president of the Greenville County Historical Society.
A proud veteran of the US Navy, he was a lifelong sailing and boating enthusiast.
Because of Covid restrictions, the funeral service will be private with a celebration of Max’s life at a later date. The family would like to express their appreciation to the staff at the Parker and to Homestead Hospice for their compassionate care during his final days.
