Jimmy Wayne Odom

March 16, 1950 — February 14, 2025

Greer, SC

Jimmy Wayne Odom, known affectionately as Jimmy to his friends and family, passed away on February 14, 2025, in Greer, South Carolina, at the age of 74. Born on March 16, 1950, in Transylvania, Louisiana, Jimmy was a man whose life was characterized by his loving nature, adventurous spirit, and analytical mind.

Jimmy was the cherished son of the late James and Geneva Odom (of Simsboro, Louisiana) and grew up surrounded by the warmth and camaraderie of his siblings, Brenda Odom Ferguson (husband the late James Ferguson), Bruce Odom (wife Letha Odom), and the late Debra Odom Collins. His life was further enriched by his marriage to Linda Watley Odom (of Ruston, Louisiana), with whom he shared countless memories and a beautiful family, including their daughters, Amy Odom Szpara and Kimberly Odom Campos, sons-in-law Raymond Szpara and Marco Campos, and his adored grandchildren, Rayne, Jayden, Wren, and Marcello.

A man of intellect and curiosity, Jimmy pursued and obtained a Bachelor of Arts in Geography from Louisiana Tech University in Ruston, Louisiana, which fueled his understanding of the world and its many wonders. His professional journey was marked by dedication and a strong work ethic, serving as an office manager for T.L. James & Company, Inc., for most of his career. He also contributed his skills to the payroll department at Winn-Dixie and later worked in delivery and distribution at WPS Industries, before retiring at the age of 65.

Jimmy's passion for life extended beyond his professional endeavors. He was an avid sports fan, always eager to discuss the latest game or cheer on his LSU Tigers. Travel was another of his great pleasures, and he relished the opportunity to explore new places. Jimmy's love for weekend trips with his family was well-known, as these excursions provided precious moments of joy and togetherness. His friendly demeanor meant that he never met a stranger, and he left a lasting impression on everyone he encountered.

One of Jimmy's most treasured experiences was his last big vacation, a journey to Alaska in July 2024 with his wife, daughters, sons-in-law, and four grandchildren. This adventure encapsulated all that Jimmy held dear: family, exploration, and the creation of unforgettable memories. His family is comforted knowing that he is now experiencing his greatest adventure of all in the most perfect destination, as he is with his Heavenly Father.

Those who knew Jimmy would describe him as a man who was not only loving and adventurous but also analytical. He enjoyed reading the news, following politics, and discussing current events.

Jimmy's legacy is one of love, laughter, and devotion to family. He instilled in his family the values of kindness and curiosity, and the importance of adventure and exploration. His grandchildren, in particular, will carry forward the lessons of joy and discovery that he imparted through his actions and stories.

As we bid farewell to Jimmy Wayne Odom, we celebrate a life well-lived, a journey marked by passion, and a soul that touched the hearts of all who were fortunate enough to know him. Jimmy's memory will continue to shine brightly in the lives of his family and friends, serving as a beacon of the love and adventure that defined him.

A private memorial will be held by family in South Carolina in the spring, and the family is planning a celebration of life in Louisiana this summer.
