Jeriann Fisher

March 27, 1946 — October 18, 2022

March 27, 1946 — October 18, 2022

Jeriann Fisher passed away at her home in Greer, South Carolina at the age of 76 on Oct. 18,
2022. Her family and friends are saddened by her passing.
Born in Okmulgee, Oklahoma during the boom of the post-war era, Jeriann (or Jeri) spent her
early years growing up on the sprawling plains of the American mid-west. Her father, a WWII
US Naval Aviator, and mother, a Registered Nurse, reared her to develop an appreciation of
world literature and the arts. She and her family moved to Hollywood Hills, California in 1961,
where her father started and ran a successful irrigation engineering company for nearly 40
years. Warm beaches and the sparkling allure of nearby Tinseltown were not enough to keep
her grounded at home, however, as Jeri began to set her sights on higher education and the
vast opportunities awaiting beyond California.
Pursuing her passion in the humanities, Jeri enrolled at Texas Tech University in the fall of 1968
and graduated 4 years later with a Bachelor’s Degree in English Literature. She met the love of
her life, Thomas W. Fisher (Tom), another Texas Tech student and active-duty US Army
Artillery Officer, who had recently returned from his second combat tour in Vietnam, earning him
a Bronze Star and the Vietnam Service Medal. Tom and Jeri would eventually marry in the fall
of 1973 and relocate to Carrolton, Texas, where they would raise three beautiful children.
Jeri’s career took a detour from the arts when she became a licensed polygraph examiner,
where she kicked down doors and trailblazed a path to success in the predominantly male
dominated corporate workforce of the 1970’s and 80’s. She was by all accounts a role model
for aspiring female professionals and taught the world how to break through the proverbial glass
ceiling. Throughout her career, she led regional loss prevention divisions for several major brick-
and-mortar retailers of the time, including Pier-One Imports, Zales Jewelry and Clothestime,
until finally retiring from her profession in 1996.
Her passions included reading western novels, playing the accordion, writing poetry, regularly
enjoying a smoke with a fine glass of wine, and her favorite of all: spending time with her three
grandchildren at every possible opportunity.
Her life was not without tragedy, however, as she lost her long-time husband of 46 years to
brain cancer in February 2019, and less than two years later, her second daughter, Kimberly
Fisher, passed away at the young age of 45 during the COVID pandemic.
She is survived by her three grandchildren - Zeno, Kana and Lisa; her brother Richard Franklin
– a US Navy veteran submariner; her sister Leta Rogers – an archeologist and mother of two;
her son Matthew Fisher – a recently retired US Navy Officer and father of two; and eldest
daughter Amanda Hanson – Entertainer Extraordinaire and mother of one.
We love you mom, and know you’ve joined Kim and Pops in the great afterlife. Rest in peace.
